The fulfilment of a dream For Lesgar Dawkins
L&N Dawkins Engineering Works Ltd. is the fulfilment of a dream for Managing Director Lesgar Dawkins. Lesgar’s entry into the world of mechanical engineering came through a friend who introduced him to the owner of a machine shop who had a vehicle that Lesgar was interested in purchasing. What began as a vehicle negotiation led to Lesgar being hired by the businessman to streamline his shop. Originally trained in electrical installation and shoemaking, Lesgar’s new position meant that he had to become familiar with every aspect of the business. As he walked the machine shop floor each day he became fascinated with what the workers were doing and gradually learned and grew passionate about engineering.
When the owner of the machine shop was looking to migrate, Lesgar saw a business opportunity and approached him to lease his business. He operated that shop for nine years before a flare-up of violence in the community forced him to move on. In 1992 he opened his own shop with two machines he had bought, and a third borrowed from his former boss, and L&N Dawkins Engineering was born. The business is now a family operation run by Lesgar, his wife Hyline and son Gavin.L&N has worked hard to adapt to the needs of the industry and the challenges that the world of business presents. In a time when many businesses have folded under economic pressure, the company has managed to rise above the challenges, with a solid reputation and a following of loyal, satisfied customers.
